Mobile Mammography Unit to Serve Ventura County Residents
Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer in Ventura County, according to "California Cancer Facts and Figures 2006" by the California Cancer Registry and the American Cancer Society.
As Chair of the Ventura County Cancer Task Force, County Supervisor Kathy Long, who is a breast cancer survivor herself, worked diligently to bring a Mobile Mammography service to fruition as a part of our Health Care Agency services.
"Mammography's aid in early detection of breast cancer is crucial to saving lives," said Long."There are an estimated 48,000 women in Ventura County who are currently underinsured and underserved. I am proud to bring this valuable service to our county."
The use of the new mobile mammography screening service will make significant progress in overcoming the number of barriers that prevent women from having a regular mammogram. These barriers include transportation, inability to pay for tests, knowledge of where to go for tests, embarrassment and language barriers.
There will be monthly regularly scheduled stops throughout Ventura County. For more information about the Mobile Mammography Unit or other county issues you can call Supervisor Long's 3
