Outer Effectiveness and Inner Congruity
Everyone I know, including myself, would like to be more outwardly effective. That might include being more effectively professionally, in relationships, physical health or in support of others. The way to increase outer effectiveness is to increase inner congruity.
Inner congruence means having thoughts, feelings and actions in alignment. It is the absence of inner conflict such as; I know I shouldn't eat that, but I want to; or I want to have greater professional success, but I don't know what to do to achieve it; or I just don't have the energy to do what I want.
One of the most amazing things, I think, is the healing power of conscious acceptance. When I am aware and accept that part of me wants that cookie, and part of me doesn't want the bloated feeling and the increased sugar cravings of eating it, the desire to eat the cookie shrinks.
If I want more energy, and who doesn't, all I need do is have less conflict. Since I have total control of internal conflict, all I need do is resolve it through greater awareness and acceptance.
Just knowing what I can do to increase my energy and effectiveness in the world is healing in and of itself. It makes real and practical the promise of the American Dream that we can become and achieve anything we sufficiently apply ourselves to. It motivates me to dig deeper and be more honest and accepting of myself at deeper and deeper levels. Hopefully, you too.
Gandhi was effective at convincing the British to give up their empire simply by having inner congruence. Think what we can do.
