Our Efforts to Connect the Dots
Everyone of us wants to master our life to a greater degree. We invest time and effort into understanding and then pursuing the causes of a happy life. Some pursue a happy life by focusing on family and relationships, some by focusing on business and career, some by focusing on recreation, some focus on religion and/or spirituality, and some on something else. Regardless of what we focus on, the goal of that focus is a happy life.
First we are well served by accepting the truth of the fact that our behavior, whatever it is, is engaged in for the purpose of maximizing our experience of happiness, joy and love. When we've accepted that we can evaluate the effectiveness of our choices by seeing to what extent they resulted in an uplifting experience. For over 20 years my wife and I have evaluated our relationships with others on the basis of weather that relationship was enlivening, enriching and empowering. That has served us well.
As we go deeper in our understanding of what makes the most positive impact in our lives, our view of life is simplified. We, as an act of self respect, focus more and more on the cause of good things in our life, and less on anything else. The deeper our understanding, the fewer things we focus on, and the more effective we become. My understanding of what crates benefit in my life has changed many times as I've gotten greater clarity. Right now, it's opening my heart; or more accurately opening my awareness of my heart. I am increasingly able to see that this is the cause of all the good things in my life, and they are many. There is plenty of room for improvement and much is going well.
Part of the mastery of life is making simplicity practical and effective. The way to do this is to be clear on what is the cause of benefit in our life, and focus on maximizing that cause.
