Something Works for Everyone
There is a point of view and perspective that works for each person. The particulars may be different for each person, but there is a solution for everyone. How do we identify and cultivate the way of looking at the world that results in peace, joy and effectiveness?
If we're honest with ourselves, we will acknowledge we each have had some success in life. The more we can cull out exactly what we did to cause that success the clearer we become in finding what works for us in all situations.
For me, it's being honest with myself about what I know to be true. Let me give you an example of how this worked for me as a 20 year old (a LONG time ago).
I was in a second or third interview for a job with Union Carbide which at that time was the number 5 company in terms of sales in the US (1976). I didn't know it at the time, but the man I was talking with was the decision maker in hiring; I spoke to over 10 people in the course of the hiring process. He told me he liked my suit. Without thinking I responded, "I bought it for this interview because I wanted to make a good impression". Upon reflection, I realized it was at that moment I got the job. There were over 200 applicants for each position.
Over the years I've realized there is no limit to how much better I can get at what works for me. My whole personality has evolved around that effort. Every year I am more honest, open and direct with people as a reflection of being more honest with myself. The more I am my SELF, the stronger I feel and act.
It is worth your while to identify and cultivate what works for you.
