Bummer, the Holidays are almost over. We've packed on the pounds, the financials have increased and we have dragged home the good stuff from the major department store sales. Now we have to "pay the piper" by trimming down and paying off the bills. You have to admit, though, it was fun running amuck for a minute or two. But, reality is going to strike and we're going to need to clean out the cob webs, get organized and purge.
Throw out the junk and don't look back. Its' time to get the Christmas presents out from under the tree and intermingle the old with the new. Everything is going to need to be dispersed throughout the house. Nothing is better than making a fresh start for the New Year. If your adding on an addition than your job is going to be real easy. If not, then here are some tips for entering the New Year with the space we have:
1.Pick a room to start, this way you won't overwhelm yourself.
2. Peruse the room and see what you are up against. Dig around and see what is an obvious throw away or donation.
3. Remember bringing in the new doesn't always mean the old gets tossed. You may only need to assimilate the new with the old.
4. Once you have done the general throw away; start getting serious about what has been around longer than a year. If it' s been a year and it has not been used then it needs to be donated or thrown away. Don't second guess yourself. The gut reaction is usually the right action to take.
5. Old stuff to be rejuvenated, put in a pile. If in 6 months you do not paint it, revive it with a new look or cover it in fabric it needs to go.
6. If you keep the old wipe it down get the dust off of it....this will increase the
chances you will use it because now it is ready to befunctional or displayed.
7. When starting your project make sure you have storage bins ready to go
and lots of garbage bags. Once it's in the bag off to the trash it goes out of the house and does not come back. If we are talking about toys...they can be in the bag in the garage for 3 months...if it's not missed then off to donation it goes. Once it's out of the house it ....Stays Out!!!
Its great to start the year off fresh; this gives you a jump on the upcoming Spring Cleaning, an initial purge makes it easier. So choose a room. Survey what you want to accomplish and knock it out. Having the bins on hand keeps you orgainized and helps make the process go faster, besides you don't loose track of your starting and ending point.
If you need to get motivated and want a jump start Interior Gaines can get you on the right track and help your project be a Resolution success. Just give us a call at (805) 795 7244 and Happy New Years to you and yours.
