CAMERA OBSCURA!
Contributed by: Raymond Holm on 9/7/2007

Most people would probably ask, "Richard who"? Few can hardly remember Richard Nixon, the guy who became the 37th president of the United States 40 years ago. However, early this morning we awoke here on Black Hills Court, Thousand Oaks to find Richard Nixon along with his six body guards driving up in two big black limos to a neighbor's house. Hundreds of people are on the sidewalks and all over the lawns... the press, secret service, and the usual gawkers. It's like 1977 all over again!

Ron Howard the famous motion picture director is in Westlake Hills for two days to film scenes for an upcoming feature film tentatively entitled "Frost/Nixon", which is about the famous 1977 interviews between British journalist and talk show host David Frost and former president Richard Nixon, after Nixon's resignation from the Presidency of the United States.

Huge truck/ trailers, generators, dressing rooms, and all sorts of equipment trucks line the streets, North and South, within three blocks of the shooting. Even Russell Park two blocks away, has tents and catering trucks set up to feed the huge cast and crew. Fact is there is a cast of over 250 people milling around dressed in those funky polyester suites of the 1970's. Even the street names have been changed to Monarch Bay Dr. and Coronation Dr. to replicate the scene from Yorba Linda, California, and vintage cars are everywhere.

Westlake Hills is having a ball for two days and all the kids in the neighborhood are thrilled to have a live movie being shot right here in their own back yard. For two days it is like the circus has come to town. Celebrities Kevin Bacon, Frank Langella, Michael Sheen (that guy that played Tony Blair in the movie "Queen") are all here in person along with Ron Howard. Just the huge cameras, tracks, booms and prop's create excitement, but it will all end as quickly as it started when the motion picture company leaves for Hollywood and Westlake Hills neighborhood returns back to its "Mayberry" setting. Life is so obscure, even here in Westlake Hills.

Well written Ray, but then every thing you write is well written. Now, if you could get the CHRONICLE to answer some of your queries....Jim
