Tons of Holiday Fun At Four Local YMCA Branches

The Miller Family YMCA is celebrating its first holiday season. We have so much to be thankful for. The welcome we've received from our Newbury Park neighbors has been overwhelming. Our membership has blossomed to over 900, and our community is getting to know one another. It seems every day someone new discovers the Y. We want to thank you for all of your support in making the Miller Family YMCA an integral part of the community.

The Y is located in the center of the beautiful Dos Vientos Ranch community, nestled in the soon to be open Paraiso Town Center. On Sunday, December 16, from noon to 5:00 p.m., Paraiso will be hosting a holiday celebration with the YMCA and other merchants of the center. The event will include horse drawn carriage rides, snow play areas, a visit from Santa, special tours of the YMCA (hot chocolate included) and sneak previews from the Paraiso merchants. It's a perfect way to meet your neighbors this holiday season.

Conejo Valley YMCA 42nd Annual Pancake Breakfast

The Conejo Valley YMCA will hold its 42nd Annual Pancake Breakfast, Sunday, December 9. Sponsored by the YMCA and the Y's Men's Club, the breakfast runs from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Conejo Valley YMCA (4031 North Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks). The cost is $4 per breakfast. The community is welcome. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Proceeds from the breakfast benefit YMCA Y Indian programs and the Conejo Valley Y's Men's Club. Santa is also scheduled to visit.

YMCA Christmas Trees

As part of a long-time community tradition, the Triunfo and Simi Valley Family YMCAs are once again selling Christmas trees this year.

The Simi Valley Family YMCA's tree lot is at the Y (3200 Cochran St., Corner of Galena and Cochran). Hours are 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

The Triunfo YMCA tree lot is on the southeast corner of Kanan and Agoura Roads in Agoura Hills. Hours are 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. A "Giving Tree" will be on the lot where people can make cash donations toward the purchase of Christmas trees for needy families. Each year, these donations enable the YMCA to provide between 15 and 25 trees to local families. Both lots are open until Christmas Eve.

Proceeds from trees purchased from the YMCA go directly to community programs. Adult and teen volunteers help at the YMCA tree lots. Buying a Christmas tree at a YMCA lot is an entirely different experience from buying a tree at a "big box" store. It's guaranteed to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Second "Holiday Shopping Night" at Triunfo YMCA

The Triunfo YMCA is hosting its second "Holiday Shopping Night," Friday, December 14 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the YMCA's Sumac Elementary School childcare site (6050 N. Calmfield in Agoura Hills). Kids are supervised by YMCA childcare staff, enjoy a pizza dinner, participate in group games and watch an age-appropriate movie while parents do some last-minute shopping. The cost is $25 for the first child and $20 for each additional sibling. Kids must be in kindergarten through eighth grade to participate. YMCA members and non-members are welcome.
