Branches of the Southeast Ventura County YMCA will host a "Discover the Y" open house on Saturday, January 5. The free events will feature games and activities for the kids. Hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Hosting the open houses are the Conejo Valley YMCA (4031 North Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks), the Miller Family YMCA (Paraiso Town Center, Newbury Park) and the Simi Valley Family YMCA (3200 Cochran St., Corner of Galena and Cochran, Simi Valley).
Tours of the Y's indoor heated pool, hydrotherapy pool and fitness center, and information about aerobics programs, special interest classes, child care, camps, youth sports and parent-child programs will be available during the open house. The Simi Valley and Conejo Valley YMCAs will host health fairs with health-oriented booths. Membership sign-ups with incentives and discounts and program sign-ups will also take place at all three Ys.
"The new year means a fresh start for health and fitness," says Tim O'Connor, executive director of the Conejo Valley YMCA. "We host an annual open house in January to give people the opportunity to start making healthy changes early in the year. Just attending is a great motivator."
"We want kids and adults alike to get excited about fitness and maintain that excitement throughout the year," says Jill Shaffer, executive director of the new Miller Family YMCA in the Dos Vientos area of Newbury Park. "The YMCAs are conveniently located in the Simi and Conejo Valleys so participating in our programs are easy. Plus, we keep them affordable and offer financial assistance when necessary."
