Free Computer Classes Offered at Library

Thousand Oaks Library is offering free Computer Classes from January 17, 2008 and run through March 18 at the Grant R. Brimhall Library Technology Training Room, 1401 E. Janss Road.

The classes are taught by experienced, professional librarians. Due to limitations in class size, registration is required. Register at the Reference Desk at the Grant R. Brimhall Library, 1401 East Janss Road, or call 805-449-2660 x.204.

Library 101 ...for the savvy library user!

This class includes an informative tour of the library as well as instruction on using the library's online catalog. This is an excellent opportunity to become better acquainted with the amazing array of library materials, resources and services. Whether you are brand new to the community or a long-time resident of the area, "Library 101" promises to help you get better acquainted with your library and become a savvy library user.

Computer Basics

An introduction to computers. Learn how to perform common tasks such as working with files and using menus and toolbars. If you are new to the Internet and computers, we strongly recommend this as a prerequisite to our other classes.

Internet and the World Wide Web: The Basics

An introductory Internet class. Topics covered include basic functions of the Internet, using web browsers, navigating and evaluating web pages. Prerequisites: Some experience with using a mouse and ability to work in a Windows" environment.

How Do I Find It On The Web: Internet Searching

An intermediate Internet class. For those already familiar with the Internet, learn how search engines and subject guides can save you time and help guide your Internet searching. Methods for researching specific topics related to health, travel, and government information will also be covered. Prerequisites: Some experience with using a mouse and ability to work in a "Windows" environment.

Internet for Spanish Speakers

¡Aprenda a usar el Internet! En esta clase básica, Ud. aprenderá a usar los navegadores del Internet y los motores de búsqueda. Tambien aprenderá como instalar y usar el correo electrónico, y como imprimir del Internet. Esta clase es gratis y será en español. Learn to use the Internet! In this basic class, you will learn how to use web browsers and search engines. You will also learn how to get an e-mail account, use e-mail, and make print-outs. This class is free and will be presented in Spanish.
