Real Estate Team Pledges Donation to Hospice

The Concierge Homes Team at Aviara Real Estate in Westlake Village has pledged to donate a percentage of its real estate commission for each home sold in 2008 toward the construction of "Our Community House of Hope," a new residential care home in the Conejo Valley for hospice patients in the last three months of life.

The Concierge Homes Team, made up of Maura Barraza, Judy Driscoll, Kristen Kennedy and Ellen Henahan recently made its first donation of $500 to the nonprofit hospice organization.

Realtor Ellen Henahan is also a hospice nurse and worked with Teresa Wolf, who is spearheading the hospice project. "Working in hospice, we hear a lot of terribly sad stories," says Henahan. "Many people who are faced with life-ending illnesses end up in nursing homes to live out their final days because they don't have family caregivers or the financial resources to pay for caregiving. When the Our Community House of Hope opens, it will be the only residential care home for hospice patients between Santa Barbara and south of Los Angeles."

The eight-bed home will serve patients and families in the Conejo and Simi Valleys, Moorpark Camarillo, Calabasas and Malibu at no cost. "This is a cause that is important to us," says Henahan. "We knew we had to help."

Members of the Concierge Homes Team at Aviara Real Estate have more than 30 years of combined real estate experience. They represent both buyers and sellers with an emphasis on helping relocating individuals and families.
