Nancy Lee wows Arts Council boutique shoppers
Contributed by: Gordon David on 12/17/2007

Perched under a bountiful Christmas Tree by the box office at the Hillcrest Center for the Arts, Nancy Lee delighted audiences at the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley's Last Chance Holiday Boutique.

The talented musician from Thousand Oaks, played her dulcimer, evoking the spirit of the season. "I wanna see the lady play her thing-a-majig!!" chimed one young gal, to her bemused mom. Nancy Lee is a talented singer and guitarist, and for this occasion, donated her services to add joy to the annual event.

She was later followed by a chorister team from Newbury Park High School, singing Christmas Carols through the halls and stalls, along the Galleria and out to other spaces inhabited by the many holiday craft vendors. Jewelery, Russian dolls and finery, candles, soaps, throws, and personalized clip boards comprised some of the unique offerings. Arts Council members, all volunteers, manned the coffee and pastries stall. A special table offered memberships to the organization, as a gift idea. Why not! The "ACCV" enjoys membership from many arts individuals and organizations, not only in the Conejo Valley, but farther afield. Key boutique organizers included Dorothy Hage of Newbury Park.

Next year's Last Chance Boutique should be even more surprising, relayed President Pat Johnston -- busy helping vendors, buying Nancy Lee's CD and selling hot coffee. Members of the non-profit ACCV Board include sculptors, painters, musicians and writers. With such a creative team, the Last Chance Holiday Boutique was and is bound to be something special. Look at the fun that was had, and look out for it next year, whether you are interested in being a vendor, a performer or a thrifty shopper or browser.
There's something for everyone at the Hillcrest Center! For more information on the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley's activities year-round, please visit http://www.conejoarts.org or phone (805) 381-2747.
