On Wednesday December 19th Santa's favorite helpers the Thousand Oaks Elks Ladies and Elk members wrapped gifts and packing baskets for around 50 families in our community. Every child in the family will receive a gift. This includes 65 children.
On Saturday, December 22nd at 9:00 a.m. the Thousand Oaks Elks Lodge #2477 will deliver to less fortunate families over $5,000 worth of turkeys, milk, eggs, vegetables and other staples, enough food to last a family for a week plus toys for all the children.
Moneys for the project were generated by the Charity Event, Sock Hop, Christmas Tree sales, thanks to Carlsons building Center, Saterday BBQs. In addition the Thousand Oaks Elks Ladies donated $1,000 as did the El Konejo Kamper Klub, plus personal donations from caring members like Jack Malone were accepted. The Charity Basket program is Chaired by our Elks Leading Knight, George Meehan and sidekick Cornelia.
The families in need are furnished by Manna, Catholic Charities, Senior Concerns. One of our naval retired veterans arranged for four palletts of food to be purchased at the naval commissary in Oxnard. Innumerable volunteer hours go into this project and we wish to thank the community and sponsors for their support.
