Cyn McCurry's paintings will be exhibited at the Kwon Fong Gallery of Art and Culture beginning Saturday, Sept. 29 through Thursday, Oct. 25. She will also be spending the month of October as a guest of California Lutheran University using the Kwan Fong Gallery as her studio. Visitors will be able to observe her at work in the studio. McCurry is a contemporary (neo) classical painter from Fort Worth, Texas.
The themes apparent in her artwork are female dominant and intensely intimate, emotional, and autobiographical. The following quote expresses her feelings about her work, "I openly pay homage to the realities of being a woman and the beauty of emotion-saturated flesh."
McCurry's work is both powerful and moving because of her universal approach to art- making. She provides the viewer with the opportunity to attach their own story to her paintings.
I quote, "Reoccurring iconography, symbols, and personal myths are the foundation my work rests on." Her work is considered neo-classical due to its revival of the classical styles prevalent during the middle of the 18 th and 19 th centuries, even though her paintings are of a modern woman. The figures seen throughout her work are isolated, gloomy, pensive, and appear to be in deep contemplation. McCurry's paintings, portraits, and murals are displayed in private collections nationwide.
Admission is free. Saturday, Sept. 29, through Thursday, Oct. 25. Opening reception: Saturday, Sept. 29, 3 p.m.
