A highlight of the Conejo Valley Historical Society's annual La Fiesta del Triunfo will be the introduction of Don and Doña Triunfo, who are Conejo Valley residents recognized for their outstanding community volunteer efforts. This year's honorees are Rudyard "Ruddy" Beldner and Judy Lazar.
The gala will be held Saturday, July 21st at the Stagecoach Inn Museum. The theme of this year's event is "Hooray for the Red, White & Blue." Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour, living-history presentations and tours of the museum. A tri-tip and barbecued chicken dinner, prepared by the Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks, will be served at 6:30.
Ruddy Beldner and his wife, Eunice Udelf, moved to Newbury Park after his retirement in 1986. Since that time he has devoted his energies to a variety of community projects. He became involved in the Arts Council Center and held many positions, beginning as Director of Public Relations and eventually serving as treasurer and president. In 1992 Ruddy was appointed to the Thousand Oaks Arts Commission where he served two two-year terms and also represented the city on the Community Gallery Steering Committee, serving as chairman for three years. In 1994 and 1995 he chaired the Conejo Valley International Folk Dance Festival and served as an officer of the Folkdance Federation of California from 1991 to 1994. He was the recipient of the 1997 "Encore for the Arts" statuette, the Arts Commission's most prestigious award for excellence in the arts. Ruddy served six years as treasurer of the Conejo Valley Historical Society, chaired the Craft-A-Rama for four years and is currently a member of the board of directors.
A former Thousand Oaks mayor and councilmember, Judy Lazar has long been active in many Conejo Valley civic organizations. She is a board member and former president of the SE Ventura County YMCA, Pacesetter Committee chair of the Conejo YMCA Capital Campaign, treasurer and founding board member of the Conejo School Foundation, co-chair of the Oaks Mall Citizens' Advisory Committee and serves on the Ventura County United Way East County task force. Some of her past activities include serving as president and board member of the American Association of University Women, as well as the boards of the Conejo Future Foundation and the Oakleaf Music Festival. She and her husband, Roger, have been Thousand Oaks residents since 1971.
In addition to the presentation of the Don and Doña, there will be a live auction featuring artwork by Bob Rickard and Rick Beal. Dancing to the music of the Starlighters will be another highlight of the evening. Reservations for this gala event are required by July 13. For additional information, call the museum office at (805) 498-9441.
