Sean Huze's play
The Sandstorm: Stories from the Front is one of the first pieces of theatre from an Iraq war vet. It doesn't address politics but focuses on the psychological impact of war. "Sean Huze's powerful play-attempts to tell us the truth-a feeling of simple authenticity grounds the play and makes it real-it deserves to be seen and heard." (from a
Backstage West review)
The Sandstorm opens at Moorpark College in the intimate Studio Theatre (PA100) on October 12 and runs thru October 13, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 at 7:30, with one matinee, on October 17 at 1:30. The play provides a forum for marines to tell their brutally candid, heart-wrenching stories.
The Los Angeles Times described
The Sandstorm as having: "shocking force and awesome honesty ... candid, uncensored, and blistering ... a heart-clutching, eye-witness mosaic." The
L.A. Weekly
described the play as "brutally candid . . . fascinating . . ."
Director of the play, and Theatre Arts professor, Katherine Lewis, saw the play in Los Angeles a couple of years ago. "At the time I thought-we all need to see this play, so that we understand what it costs a our young men and women to fight in a war, any war."
The play runs approximately one hour and a half without an intermission. It is not appropriate for children.
Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.moorparkcollege.edu/pac or by contacting the Moorpark College Box Office at (805) 378-1485, or
