New Open Mic Wednesday in Thousand Oaks

"Random Acts of Comedy"-Open Mic stand up comedy has found a new home in Thousand Oaks. General Manager Hans Hazz Jr welcomes the opportunity for stand up comedy to join the roster of events at "The Other Place" at 821 E. Thousand Oaks, Blvd.

"We're the local bar in Thousand Oaks that features multiple screens for major sports, Karaoke Fridays, a dance floor for Salsa Sundays and more," Hazz said. "Adding an Open Mic for stand up comedy on Wednesdays is a nice change of pace for us. We have great drink and appetizer specials that make any visit to 'The Other Place' fun. We take care of our locals!"

Simi Valley resident comic and producer Kamaka Brown will host the Open Mic Wednesdays starting October 24 th. "The Open Mic will provide a venue for comics who would like a place to work out new material and a supportive environment for anyone who would like to try their hand at stand up comedy." Brown said. "Each comic will have between 5 and 10 minute spots for this workshop type program. Comics are offered notes on their performance upon request.

Brown is a veteran comic who has worked many comedy clubs in SoCal including the Ice House in Pasadena, Comedy Store in West Hollywood and NoHo's Ha Ha Café. He has opened for B.B King, Temptations and Chuck Berry. Brown, a Hawaii native has produced his own "Comedy Luau" shows in Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley over the years. He works Las Vegas through out the year, recently performing at the Tropicana and the California Hotel.

The first Open Mic for comics starts on October 24 th at 8 P.M.
