Random Acts of Comedy in Thousand Oaks

Producer and comic Kamaka Brown hosts "Random Acts of Comedy", an open mic that features stand up comics. "Our show gives people who want to try their hand at stand up comedy a venue to get their feet wet", said Brown a veteran comic orignally from Hawaii.

Each wednesday night at 8PM at The Other Place- Sports Bar and Grill at 821 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. in Thousand Oaks, Kamaka provides a venue for stand up comics who want to work out new material and "noobs" who want a spin at telling jokes.

"There's a supportive core of comics who gather each week for some laughter therapy," Brown said. "Comics don't really have a place to work out their material. Our platform provides that opportunity."

The Other Place general manager Hans Hazz says he's enjoyed the humor, laughter and yes, groans from the audience over the several months the show has played the wednesday schedule. "It's just a fun show in a supportive environment and we are happy to have Kamaka pull it all together each week."

Each week, in addition to the "regulars" who support the show on stage, Brown books featured comics to close the show.

The January 9th show will feature actress and comic Ina Romeo. "Ina has quite a resume of film and TV credits behind her," Brown said, "including "Escape fromLA" Judging Amy" and "Carolyn In the City".Romeo, as a professional stand-up comic, performs regularly at top comedy clubs across southern California (including, The Improv, The Laugh Factory,and The Comedy Store)

"My comedy career began in earnest in '97 when I performed for our troops in Korea, Japan and Hawaii." Romeo said. "I am looking forward to the show next wednesday in Thousand Oaks."

There is no cover or minimum for "Random Acts of Comedy". 21 and over please.
Comics who would like to perform may sign up before the show from 7:30.
