Day of the Dead Celebration at the Carnegie
Contributed by: Carnegie Art Museum on 9/5/2007

What:
The Carnegie Art Museum is pleased to present a Day of the Dead/Día de los Muertos celebration for families on Saturday, November 3 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Admission is free for everyone!

If you've been curious about Day of the Dead, this is a great time opportunity for you to learn what it's all about. Typically celebrated on November 1 and 2 in Mexico and in other parts of the world, Día de los Muertos is a holiday with an emphasis on honoring the lives of the deceased, and celebrating the continuation of life. The belief is that death is not the end, but rather the beginning of a new stage in life.

Following the format of past Family Days at the Carnegie, the Day of the Dead celebration will feature several hands-on art projects, themed storytelling, performances, refreshments, and more. Participants can decorate sugar skulls, make tin art, create papel picado (cut tissue paper banners), and make a dancing calaca (skeleton) puppet. We'll also be serving pan muerto (Day of the Dead bread) and traditional hot chocolate!

The Carnegie Art Museum is located at 424 South C Street in Oxnard. For more information, please call (805) 385-8171 or e-mail camcornerstones@yahoo.com.
