Hi everyone, I'm the YourHub.com editor for the Ventura County Star. I'm glad you found your way to the blog section. If you're not familiar with them, "blog" is simply short for "Web log" and you can think of it as an online journal where you can wax philosophic on subjects large or small, international or personal. Musing on roadside religion

Though I have what I'd guess you'd call a spiritual side of sorts, a meeting house, church or temple isn't where you'll generally find me on Sunday mornings, Saturday evenings or times between.

Still, there is one church near my house that I check out every time I drive by. Recently receiving a face lift, it's a pleasant looking building, but that's not what catches my eye; I like the marquee out front.

Each week or so, there's a new message, sometimes witty, sometimes funny and sometimes just spiritual, but always worth the read.

Years back, I remember the sign suggesting passersby "Come to my house for Superbowl Sunday --God;" A recent message explained "God loves us the way we are, but too much to leave us that way."

Curious about where these messages originate, I called the church, Parkview Baptist in Port Hueneme, and spoke with Anna Persky, who told me though some of the sign messages come from a book, most are things the pastor, Rick Wood, comes up with.

"He's very creative, the Lord just blesses him that way," she said, noting that I'm not the first to inquire about the sign.

Not being one to need much of an excuse to do some online surfing, I searched the Web on the topic and it turns out there's quite a debate to be found amongst those who appreciate fun church signs and those who believe they should deliver a straight forward message. In the midst of the discussion, I ran across some amusing, witty and some just strange messages, called Godvertising by one site, that others have seen posted: "Sign Broken. Message Inside;" "Stop, drop and roll does not work in Hell;" and, as if talking to me personally, "There are some questions that can't be answered by Google."

These don't even include the signs with unintentional double entendres, grammatical mistakes that changed meanings and the like.
