Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

To acknowledge the commitment to increase public awareness of Alzheimer's disease, the City of Oxnard has declared November 2007 as Alzheimer's disease Awareness Month.

An estimated 5.1 million Americans have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and the number is projected to grow to between 11.3 million to 16 million by 2050. The disease is most common in individuals over the age of 65. In America, the cost of treating Alzheimer's disease is estimated to be more than $100 billon annually and the average lifetime cost of care for an individual with the disease is $174,000.

The City of Oxnard urges all residents to support the services, events and festivities that bring awareness of this serious disease to the public's attention.
