At Port Hueneme's Navy Base Ventura County, 14 volunteers rotate the duty providing information, referrals and assistance to Ventura County's 9,250 Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard and Reserve components retirees and their families concerning issues with retired military pensions/benefits, survivor planning/benefits and casualty reporting.
. In addition they serve family members of deceased military retirees
The Retired Activities Office (RAO) cadre of trained volunteers is made up of retired officers, enlisted and military spouses from all branches of the military Services. While they are primarily focused on the military retirees in Ventura County, they often field inquiries from retirees, who wish to visit the area, asking about local activities and long distant family members who wish to report the death of a military retiree and didn't know whom to contact. Their policy is to never turn a person away because of location or branch of service or complexity of issue.
They have an outreach program to retirees and their family in the form of a bi-monthly newsletter. It is distributed at the Port Hueneme Navy Base's commissary, exchange and pharmacy. While the NBVC RAO would like to mail the newsletter to all the retirees and their families in Ventura County, its volunteers do not and cannot take any reimbursement for their services therefore they do not have funding for postage to mail a newsletter. However if anyone would like to receive the newsletter by email they can send a request along with their email address to the newsletter's editor at epags1@gimail.af.mil
The RAO are staffed Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM at the Fleet & Family Services Center, building 1169, Port Hueneme. They can be reached by calling 805-982-1023. This is a dedicated line with message capability. They also can be reached by FAX @ 805-982-1037 which is also a dedicated line to their office. The Internet contact is TRNCNICRAO.fac@navy.mil. NOTE: this email address can not send or receive attachments. They are closed on all national and military holidays.
About the RAO Logo: The Logo represents the commitment and steadfastness of the volunteers who provide Retired Activities Office (RAO) services at Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC).
Commitment: To the retirees and survivors the RAO staff helps daily.
Steadfastness: In advising RAO clients about their ever-changing rights and benefits.
The RAO Logo is encompassed in a circle and locates the RAO as part of the NBVC with RAO Port Hueneme aligned and embracing the NBVC logo. The circle represents the earth and all the items placed on a blue field background which represents the world's oceans. The U.S. Navy signal flags spell out "Retired Military" and are separated by anchors. Although the RAO logo is of a U.S. Navy theme, the totality of the RAO is to support any and all military branch retirees, their families and surviving family members.
