More often than we should, we read about our young people who have fallen victim to the wiles of the world. In many cases, the devastation is far too hard to bear. So when St. Paul Baptist Church aggressively sought to bring in and minister to the youth and young adult population with the first annual Prophetic Holy Anointed Teaching Conference (P.H.A.T), it was not only a welcomed effort, but a most productive one at that.
The P.H.A.T. Conference was held during the week of July 19th through July 21st, and entailed workshops that provided instruction on dealing with real life issues and addressing challanges that young people are confronted with in today's times.
Highlighting the conference was the Late Night Gospel Artist Concert with an array of talent from throughout the state, and the Nu Soul Cafe that allowed local Christian artists to showcase their talent through diverse creative means.
Rev. SiDereck' Ross, Youth Pastor at St. Paul says, "We want to reach our youth and young adults, and we will do that in any way that we can."
In addtion to the P.H.A.T. Conference, St Paul's Vacation Bible School (VBS) yielded a record breaking attendance of over two hundred registrants each night. Ages ranged from pre-schoolers to seniors, with more adolescents than any other age group, except for the last night when the ages forty and over, produced the most attendees.
The week long VBS was held July 31st through August 3rd from 6:00p.m. to 8:30p.m. nightly, and hailed the theme, "Graduate to Great...the Jesus Way".
Dr. H. Patricia Hill, Director of St. Paul Christian Eduacation, remarked that VBS is all about evangelizing and making sure the Word of God is brought to the community in a means that educates, edifies, and enlightens.
Bishop B.A. Huggins, Pastor of St. Paul commented that he is pleased to see St. Paul serving God and the community in the manner of which it is intended.
Both the P.H.A.T Conference and VBS were held on the church grounds at 1777 Staham Blvd., Oxnard.
