The theme was "God's Man Standing On God's Word" and the person being honored was Bishop Broderick Huggins of the Saint Paul Baptist Church in Oxnard. Dr. Huggins celebrated his 17th year of service on Sunday, Nov. 11 as the pastor of the church.
The day began at 8 a.m. with a word from Prophetess Jane Williams from Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Dr. Josh Kirvan from Altanta, Ga. shared a message during 11 a.m. service and Rev. Gary Faulkner from Memphis, Tenn. brought the word during a special "Pastor's Appreciation Celebration" at the 4 p.m. service. John Hatcher, past-President of the NAACP, presented Dr. Huggins with a recognition award from the organization forHuggins' efforts and positive influence in the community.
"This has been a year of shifting for us," Dr. Huggins stated in his message to the congregation. "We experienced many challengesthis year...Thank you for your support of me and the vision."
Since Dr. Huggins' arrival, Saint Paul has grown on all levels and is now known throughout Ventura County for its efforts in ministry and community action. Dr. Huggins has also implemented several church programs allowing the church to develop a comprehensive ministry for people of all ages. He is in the process of building a family life center, gymnasium and a 1,500-seat sanctuary.
