Last Wednesday, I was attacked by inspiration! I had the pleasure of attending the graduation of the 2007 Leadership Ventura class. As the graduates described their community service projects, their growth while working in teams, being stretched as leaders, I was taken again with the impact, connection and creativity of Leadership Ventura.
Leadership Ventura unveils the diversity, mechanics and scope of our City, from Arts & Culture to Regional Commerce to Media & Communications. As a local business owner, this aspect opened my eyes to a multitude of opportunities, both in new relationships and in new perspectives about the city that I call home.
The depth and freshness of the leadership development component caught me off guard. In addition to getting challenging, honest insights into my own leadership style, I gained many practical tools for development and appreciation of my employees and staff. This component alone amply justified the investment of time and money.
The creative and unexpected challenges working as a team member created connections and relationships that will last a long time. Where else can you mess with a guy from the police department, be humbled by a hospital administrator and see first hand the impact of a local non-profit, all while digging holes for plants?
Yes, there is a story...
If you are serious about leading an organization that will be connected to the community...
If you want to grow as a leader and CEO...
If you know that you need to get out of the cave that you call an office and meet the rest of your market...
Then call the Ventura Chamber of Commerce and sign up for the 2008 Leadership Ventura Class.
I'll see you there!
