Celebrate Summer with "Unity through Music"
Rio School District and Boys and Girls Clubs Offer New Program

OXNARD, Calif.-The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme and the Rio School District in collaboration are forming choir and orchestra groups in partnership with world renowned musicians, maestro Dino Zonic and choir performer and director Julia Zonic.

The program welcomes all youth who are interested in being a part of this new and exhilarating music program. Priority will go to youth attending school in the Rio district. Beginning, intermediate and advanced level students are encouraged to come and learn about this opportunity. Musical instruments, although limited in quantity, will be provided for all enthusiasts.

The times and dates for auditions and information are:

Rio Lindo Elementary: July 9, 2-6pm
2131 Snow Avenue, Oxnard

Rio del Norte Elementary: July 10, 2-6pm
2500 Lobelia Drive, Oxnard

Rio Real Elementary: July 11, 2-6pm
1140 Kenny Street, Oxnard

Rio Plaza Elementary: July 12, 2-6pm
600 Simon Way, Oxnard

Rio del Valle Middle School: July 13, 2-6pm
3100 Rose Avenue, Oxnard

Port Hueneme Boys & Girls Club: July 16, 2-4pm
590 East Pleasant Valley Road, Port Hueneme

Martin V. Smith Boys & Girls Club: July 16, 4:30-7pm

Maestro Zonic is the founder and president of Unity through Music, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create unity on earth by awakening the spirit of humanity through the universal language of music. Named as cultural ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he went on after the war to become the Balkans' most prominent composer, conductor and director, creating deeply emotional, highly kinetic, and powerfully dynamic musical works. Maestro Zonic's music raises the consciousness of his audiences by telling stories through music where love and truth triumph over hatred and tyranny. His musical themes celebrate the survival of the human spirit over unimaginable adversity.

The program feels fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Maestro Dino Zonic and his wife Julia Zonic. The youth of the community will have an opportunity to learn and be inspired through their instruction and musical expertise. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Oxnard and Port Hueneme strives to meet the needs of youth by providing educational, character and leadership development, health and recreation programs. Its mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need the Clubs most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
