THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF GREATER OXNARD AND PORT HUENEME TO CELEBRATE THE RE-OPENING OF THE HARRIET H. SAMUELSSON BRANCH
OXNARD, Calif.-The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme will host the official grand opening ceremony for its newly renovated Seventh Street facility. All members of the community are encouraged to join in the landmark celebration. Lunch and refreshments will be served and guests can enjoy tours of the club's state-of-the-art new equipment and programs. Membership applications will be on hand at the event. The opening will be held 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 at 126 E. Seventh Street, Oxnard.
The Harriet H. Samuelsson Branch originally opened in 1954 and was the first chartered Boys & Girls Club in Oxnard. The site, which closed in January of 2003 due to structural deficiencies, offers a College and Career Center, computer lab, game room, a high-tech moving rock climbing wall and an impressive new 7,000-square-foot gym.
"The Boys & Girls Clubs is an organization that prides itself on creating hope and opportunities for our young people," said Chief Professional Officer Tim Blaylock. "Our Clubs offer a safe haven every day, year after year along with a professional staff who care, encourage and inspire; a place where members feel a sense of belonging; where they are free to imagine and to dream."
Pat McCarthy Construction & Development led the construction efforts for the $1.5 million renovation that began in August 2006. The new facilities were made possible by generous donations from donors including, Riverpark Legacy, LLC, Haas Automation, the Ventura County Star, the Harriet H. Samuelsson Foundation, Dean Maulhardt, Corrine and Joe Burdullis, Pat McCarthy, and many others. Due to their efforts the new club is now open for all the kids in the Oxnard community to enjoy.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Oxnard & Port Hueneme provide programs and services at 25 locations throughout Oxnard and Port Hueneme to more than 7,000 youth. For more information on Club programs or to RSVP call (805) 815-4959 ext. 204.
