THE FIRECRACKER
By Sprout, the Cockatiel

(Monday Morning) Mommie is sure ignoring me today. She is so busy with her needlework that she hasn't scratched my neck once. What is this thing on the arm of the couch? I will push it to the floor and examine it more closely. It looks like a tiny firecracker. I'll pull out the string. OOOOOO!! Look at all the black powder that just spilled!!! I wonder how it tastes.....WOW!! pretty spicy!!! I'll try some more. There, it's all gone.

(Monday Nite) My tummysure is gurgling. What are those noisy "Toots" I keep doing?

(Tuesday Morning) Oh Oh. Mommy just found the empty firecracker case. She is coming over to my cage. She looks very, very worried. She is really paying attention to me now. Goodie, she is taking me out of the cage and giving my a big cuddling. OOOOO yes, rub my neck--"Yes Mommie, I feel fine. Last night I felt a little weird, but today I am back to my happy self."

Mommie ought to know by now to keep all bad things out of my reach. I can sure get into trouble if things are left laying around.
