Ventura resident, Dane Reynolds, has a legitimate shot to qualify for the 2008 Foster's ASP World Tour. Although Dane currently sits in sixth place on the men's World Qualifying Tour, Dane is by no means a "Shoe in" for one of the coveted 15 spots needed to qualify for the big show.
With the caliber of talent displayed by upcoming stars such as Jordy Smith of South Africa, Tiago Pires of Portugal and hundreds of the worlds brightest wave riders, the task to qualify is a daunting one. There is a reason they call it
The Grind. Just ask another local boy, Bobby Martinez, who made
Rookie of The Year his first time to the World Tour in 2006 after 5 years of battling it out on the WQS. With all that talent gunning for 15 spots and the fact that the 2007 WQS season is far from over, the twenty year old Reynolds will be looking for a few more solid results.
And speaking of results, Dane has seen some good ones this year including a quarter final at the Billabong Monster Energy Pro at the Pipeline in Oahu, a semi-final at the O'Neill Drug Aware Pro in Australia and another quarter final at last week's Quiksilver Pro in South Africa. Reynolds also won his first heat this morning in Round 1 of the O'Neill Highland Pro in Northern Scotland. He moves on to face the number one seeded WQS surfer, Tiago Pires, in tomorrows Round 2 action. You can view the live web-cast by visiting the site located at

With a couple of more solid results under his belt, Dane Reynolds is sure to make it to the ASP World Tour. I, for one, am already making the claim that he will be in the top 5 by years end.
