MMA History Made in Oxnard
Contributed by: Manuel Herrera on 5/3/2007

On Saturday, April 28th history was made when the first Mixed Martial Arts Cage Fight show was held at the Oxnard Performing Arts center by bring It On! promotions. There had never been this type of sport offered in the city of Oxnard. The show was such a success that promoter Rene Caranco plans to hold more shows here in Oxnard. The event featured three local fighters from West coast Jiu-jitsu. Nick Willert, Lee Chapman and Carlos Lovio. Willert (3-1 2 ko's) was the main event and didn't disappoint his fans when he stopped his opponent in 2 minutes 3 seconds of the first round with a rear-naked chokehold. Chapman (2-0 2ko's) also stopped his opponent in the first round with the same hold. Lovio lost in a very controversial bout when he claimed that the referee didnt see that his opponent had tapped out in the first round.
Whats next for the West Coast fighters? Showtime has offered Willert and Chapman a fight in their next televised show in August. So stay tuned...
