Jordan Hedgepeth, a recent Rio Mesa High School graduate almost gave up on ice hockey after suffering a severe knee injury his junior year. Confined to a wheel chair and crutches for the last half of his junior year, the Oxnard native was driven to recover as quickly as possible, and with friends such as Josh Harrison and Malaki Lewis on the football team helping with weight training - Hedgepeth was back on his feet by summer's end. However, instead of going back to ice hockey, Hedgepeth decided to try to play football his final year in high school and enjoy time with his school friends. "It was fun being around the guys, and football was not my sport but the off-ice training I got has been paying off for me. I had alot of fun my senior year, and actually just did not want to leave home (for ice hockey). I'm having fun here in Billings, Montana and have made lots of new friends." Hedgepeth was recruited by the Billings Bulls, a Junior A ice hockey team out of Billings, Montana. Unlike other sports, a majority of ice hockey players defer collegiate participation to play 'junior hockey' in hopes of moving on to the collegiate even professional level - after playing in the junior leagues.
States Hedgepeth, "the family I'm staying with are cool and their 60" plasma and game room are tight. They've made it easier to be so far from home - but I still miss my grandparents' and mom's Filipino cooking." Hedgepeth plans to return home for a few days during the Christmas holiday. The team's games can be heard on internet radio (www.billingsbulls.com) every Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 7:30pm.
