The Debt ... or Money is the Root of All is presented by the Elite Theatre Company. In the spirit of the "spoof," this play written by Ojai resident, Bill Spellman, tells the wild, ridiculous, and heartfelt story of Phil O'Dendron, a poor young medical student of Irish descent. The object of his affection is Shirley R. Nice, a young highborn orphan. She lives with her uncle, Judge Habeus Corpuscle, who in trying to keep Shirley in the lifestyle to which she was born, has indebted himself to the hilt to his friend and banker, Titus A. Drumm. Squire Drumm, although much older, fancies himself to be Shirley's husband. So begins the wild and twisted journey these characters take. Will true love win out? You'll have to come to the Elite to see!
