The Channel Islands Riptide Midget 16 (15-16 year olds) hockey team and the Midget 18 teams both won their divisions at the LA Jr Kings Thanksgiving hockey tournament at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo over the Thanksgiving weekend. In the U16 division The Riptide went 4-0 for the tournament to take home the championship banner. In the opener on Thanksgiving evening the Riptide defeated the host LA Jr Kings by a score of 6-0 led by Dalton Bowles from Carpinteria High with three goals, Shane Meaney from St Bonaventure High and Buena Highs Parker Eliot each scored a goal and an assist. Thousand Oaks High junior Evan Sharpshair scored the final Riptide goal.
In game two the Riptide defeated the Beach City Lightning by a score of 2-1 with goals by Branden Casillas from Grace Brethren off an assist by Simi Highs Blake Hull and the second goal by Newbury Park Highs Jonathan Durrell.
Game three saw the Riptide defeat LA Hockey Club, coached by former Philadelphia Flyer great Mel Bridgman, by a score of 4-3 to reach the final. LA Hockey Club made the final also to face the Riptide again. This time the game went into overtime tied and eventually to a shootout, where the Riptide prevailed 2-1 behind the stellar goaltending of goalies Branden Batcheller of Westlake High and Brian Flack from Newbury Park High. The rest of the Riptide team isShane Robbins and Nathan Sobel from Newbury Park High, Greg Heimann from Villanova, Eric Schneider, Kris Guitardand Gabe Katsimpas from Camarillo High, Keith McElevey from Moorpark High, Travis Momon from Simi High, Danny Phillips from Oak Park High and Taylor Loria.
Riptide M16 coaches are Bobby Hull, Jr and Steve Schneider.
In the Midget 18 division the Riptide opened with a loss to the LA Jr Kings 7-1, then beat St Alberts, Canada 4-2, Capital City Thunder from Sacramento 2-0 and the West Valley Wolves 9-2 to earn a championship game rematch with the Jr Kings. The Riptide got their revenge with a 8-5 victory to bring home their banner. For the tournament the Riptide were led by Jon Paule with six goals and six assists, TJ Lasure with five goals and four assists, Joey Janowski with six goals and two assists, Adam Frank with two goals and three asists, Michael Critzer with a goal and four assists, Brndon Ceglia with two goals and two assists. Ryan Shields, Ben Rotello, Josh Paule and Julian Calma each added a goal and an assist. Riptide goalie Seth Santini made 27 saves in the final. Riptide is coached by Kevin Shields and Tim Lasure.
