Blog Entry 43 of 47 What's happening in YOUR neighborhood?
Hi everyone, I'm the YourHub.com editor for the Ventura County Star. I'm glad you found your way to the blog section. If you're not familiar with them, "blog" is simply short for "Web log" and you can think of it as an online journal where you can wax philosophic on subjects large or small, international or personal. Just remember if you choose to add the blog to the YourHub listings, anyone can read what you write. My blog tends to be about random thoughts and observations that hopefully will spur conversation either on local topics or local effects of wider-reaching topics. Please feel free to leave comments with your own views -- or better yet, start your own blog and write about it!

Hosts post Halloween happenings on Hubs

It's finally feeling like fall to me. It's not the crisp coolness in the air or the turning of the leaves that my friends on the east coast experience, it's the Santa Anas and the heat. It's also all the roadside pumpkin stands and, sadly for my sake, candy corn and popcorn balls and bite-sized miniature Snickers that make their way into co-workers' candy dishes.

It's also the plethora of activities that start now and run through the end of the year beginning with haunted houses and Halloween carnivals, complete with games and other fun.

Last week I invited readers to post their holiday events and you really came through!

But things don't quiet down after the 31st. There's still Dia de Los Muertos observances (see http://vc.yourhub.com/Oxnard/Event~357457.aspx and http://vc.yourhub.com/Ventura/Story~362933.aspx), harvest festivals and food drives for Thanksgiving.

And don't forget the church holiday boutiques, living nativity scenes, parades of lights, and, of course, the local elementary schools' fourth grade winter program that follows.

It's no wonder we feel so busy from here on out; we are! While you're in the midst of it, don't forget to share all of the events you're involved in with other Hubsters. It's an easy -and free- way to spread the word. While every posting may not make it to the printed page, all items, as long as they meet posting conditions (this is a family paper, after all), go online for others to read just as soon as you publish them.

For now, though, I have to figure out a superhero (or villain) costume for an upcoming party. Even with costume hints from a local Web radio host ( http://vc.yourhub.com/Camarillo/Story~377789.aspx), I'm at a loss. I'm leaning heavily toward a villain costume, as superheroes, it turns out, wear mostly spandex. Darn those miniature Snickers bars...
