What do the Pleasant Valley Garden Club, the Ventura County Shuffle Board Association, the Soroptimist International of Camarillo and the Camarillo United Methodist Church have in common?

They all had members attend the Oct. 9 YourHub.com 101 at the Ventura County Star's offices in Camarillo.

They came for the same thing: to learn how to promote their organizations through YourHub.com.

"We've always said we're the best kept secret in Camarillo," said Pat Rush of the Soroptimist Club of Camarillo, "but we don't want to keep it that way."

About 17 people attended this session where they found out what YourHub.com is, how to post stories and pictures and tips on writing stories and taking pictures for the site.

YourHub.com is the Ventura County Star's citizen journalism Web site where anyone in the community can post stories, events, blogs and pictures to promote their organizations, businesses, schools, families, themselves, and the list goes on.

Udas Young of the Pleasant Valley Garden club said she was at the session because her club is having an annual wreath sale and fundraiser and she wanted to find ways to promote the fundraiser within the community.

Diane Campbell came to promote the Camarillo United Methodist Church's free digital photography class. Not only did she learn how to use YourHub.com, but she also went home with a list of people from the YourHub session who were interested in participating. FYI, the class is Oct. 16 from 7 to 8 p.m. at 291 Anacapa Drive in Camarillo.

Missed this session? Here are some tips that the attendees learned for posting stories and photos:

• When writing a story, start with the most important information at the beginning (the who, what, when, and where about the event or story).

• When taking photos, make sure your camera is set at the highest setting to ensure the best quality photo. Post photos with at least 200 dpi to ensure that they will be the best quality for our print edition.

We have several sessions planned throughout the county during the rest of fall. Our next session is planned for Ventura on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. and will be at the ARC Community Connections at 295 S. Arcade Drive.
