Saturday, March 17, 1:00 pm, Rancho Santa Susana Community Center, was the site of a presentation with wild animals. This is event was free and open to the public and was sponsored by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District and the Rancho Simi Trail Blazers.
Molly Hogan from Nature of WildWorks brought a serval, an African cat that is similar to a bobcat in size. The more than 250 children, parents, and otherspresent learned about the habitat and behaviors of this unusual animal. Additionally, the organization brought animals such as a hawk, owl, raccoon, rat, turkey vulture and many others. This was an exciting and up-close look at nature.
The presentation, called "Safe Passages - Coexisting With Your Neighbors," was co-presented by Mountain Lion Foundation and Nature of WildWorks. This is the fourth presentation offered over the past three years.
Visitors found out about local wildlife, their biology, habits and behaviors and were able to discover ways to reduce the human vs wildlife conflicts and learned ways to ensure the security of their family, pets and livestock. Brochures and publications were available to take home.
The Mountain Lion Foundation representative, Christa Kermode, educated the audience on mountain lions, their habitat, behaviors, biology, mating, and more. She discussed local mountain lion activity and habits.
