Simi Valley Days Gets Underway September 12

The 23rd annual Simi Valley Days celebration and carnival gets underway September 12 - 16 at the corner of Madera Road and Los Angeles Avenue. The theme for this year's event is "It's Great To Be A Kid" and promises to be as fun-filled as ever. The annual carnival will feature old favorites, including KOWCHIP Bingo, new rides and the Mark II - the largest traveling roller coaster on the West Coast. In honor of the theme - a special Sports Festival will be held on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16 to promote youth sports in Simi Valley, featuring exhibitions for youth sports, such as baseball, soccer and football.
New this year is the Simi Valley Days Music Festival, which will be held at the Rancho Simi Park (at the softball diamond) on September 14, 15, and 16. The festival will showcase 25 local, regional and national bands playing a variety of music - from rock and roll to punk to heavy metal. Headliner bands will include national recording artists - Fishbone and Mad Caddies. Local DJs will also be on site playing the latest in Hip Hop music under a special Hip Hop tent. And on the final day - Sunday, September 16, bands from around the Southern California area will perform - and admission will be 10 dollars for 10 bands. Admission on Friday and Saturday is fifteen dollars.
The music festival hours are:
• Friday, September 14 5:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.
• Saturday, September 15 Noon - 11:30 p.m.
• Sunday, September 16 Noon - 9:30 p.m.
Also new this year, the Strathearn Historical Park and Museum is hosting a History Day on Sunday, September 16, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., admission is five dollars.
For those who love to shop, the Merchants Pavilion returns Friday thru Sunday - September 14-16, and the Old Fashioned Picnic, a favorite of carnival goers, will be back with the pie eating contest and three-legged race. Carnival hours are as follows:
• Wednesday, September 12 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
• Thursday, September 13 5 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
• Friday, September 14 5 p.m. - Midnight
• Saturday, September 15 5 p.m. - Midnight
• Sunday, September 16 Noon - 10:00 p.m.
General admission - Adults $6.00 Children $3:00 4 - 12 years
Senior Citizens 60 and older $3.00 Children three and under FREE
Carnival ride tickets are extra.
The Live Entertainment schedule is as follows:
• Thursday, September 13 Battle of the Bands
• Friday, September 14 D.J. and Local Bands
• Saturday, September 15 Michael Johns
• Sunday, September 16 Natalie Marie
The Simi Valley Days Parade is scheduled for Saturday, September 15 at 9:00 a.m. and this year marks the 75th anniversary for the event. The parade route begins at the corner of Erringer and Los Angeles Avenue and ends at Sinaloa and Los Angeles Avenues.
