The Conejo Valley Homeschoolers recently completed a student-run book drive through the BookEnds program and collected over 3,000 gently used children's books. The sixstudent leaders delivered over 400 pre-school books on Monday, May 21st, to the Moorpark Simi Valley Neighborhoodfor Learning Mobile Preschool at the Simi Valley Boys and Girls Club. They read with the pre-schoolers and joined them for circle time and a snack.
On June 4th, the student leaders will make a second delivery, and donate K-5 books to Ramona Elementary School in Oxnard, where they will do some buddy reading with the youngsters at the school.
BookEnds' mission is to empower students to create a thrivingcommunity by opening the door to community service and literacy.BookEnds was founded by an 8-year-old boy who believed he could make adifference, and led his peers in a book drive to start a much-neededlibrary at Hollygrove Children's Home. Since BookEnds began in1998, 140,000 BookEnds student volunteers have filled 441 barrenlibraries throughoutSouthern California, delivering morethan 1.2 million donated books into the hands of over 300,000 at-risk students.
