Hello, my name is Christine Heisley and I am currently a Fourth-grade Teacher at Park View Elementary School. I received my Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) and Teaching Credential from California State University Northridge (C.S.U.N.) in May of 2006.
The Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley holds a very special and dear place in my heart. At the age of twelve, I started attending the Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley. Like most children, my parents had to work every day and wanted me in a safe environment after school. From the moment I stepped inside of the Boys & Girls Club, I immediately felt welcomed and comforted.
I have literally grown up at the Boys & Girls Club.
At the age of fourteen, I became a Jr. Leader, and at the age of sixteen I got my first job as a staff member, working with hundreds of kids each day. I worked at the Boys & Girls Club throughout high school and college life. I have learned many of my teaching techniques from the great mentors at the Boys & Girls Club. This is why I want to give back to an organization which has helped me to become the person I am today. Thus, I am offering private tutoring for children through the Boys & Girls Club.
The "Tutoring for Success" program will be for children ages 6-14. The tutoring program will be split into three sessions two days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
For only $50 a month, I will be offering private tutoring session! I am trying to get this information out to all children, so that they can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
With the "Tutoring for Success" program I hope to accomplish an individualized tutoring program which allows children to receive help with their weekly homework, reports or projects, and to work on specific skills they need to improve. Depending upon the child's age, we will meet at the Boys & Girls Club for 45 minutes, twice a week for personal help: ages 6-8 will be meeting from 5:00- 5:45 pm; ages 9-11 will be meeting from 6:00-6:45; and ages 10-14 will be meeting from 7:00-7:45. I will be holding office hours on Wednesdays from 5:00-8:00pm, if parents or students have any additional questions. An assessment will be given to each student on the first day, in Math and Language Arts, so that I may accumulate extra practice for the skills they need to work on or improve. Each child will have a personal folder with all of his or her own work and extra assignments that need to be practiced. Parents may come in to review their child's progress at any time.
