On Thursday, November 29, students throughout Simi Valley were recognized and honored for their creative and artistic talents through the Reflections program sponsored by the National PTA and hosted by the Simi Valley PTA/PTSA Council. The event, held at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, was the perfect opportunity to support local students and the Arts in Simi Valley.
Students entered their original artwork in six categories; visual arts, film/video, literature, dance/choreography, music, and photography.
Eight students, two in each of the four age categories, received "Golden Envelopes." These prizes of excellence, provided by the Simi Valley Education Foundation and the Simi Valley Town Center contained awards ranging in value from $50.00 to $200.00. The prizes were in the form of gift certificates to he Simi Town Center. The following students received the Golden Envelopes: Karis Kim - Visual Arts, Ryan Kimmel - Film/Video, Jeffrey Hinkle - Literature, Karly Fontaine - Dance/Choreography, Melanie Tran - Literature, Lindsey Fraye - Music, Jillian Swift - Photography and Lana Alicata - Music.
Seventy-eight students' artwork will be sent onto 12th District PTA to compete with other students throughout Ventura County. Those advancing beyond 12th District will be vying against students from all over California and have the possibility of moving onto the National level.
The 12th District Reflections recognition ceremony will be held on the evening of January 22nd at the new Ventura County Board of Education Building on Adolfo Road in Camarillo.
