CSUCI Offers Scholarships for 2008-09 Academic Year

Camarillo, Calif., Nov. 19, 2007 - California State University Channel Islands announced that the scholarship application cycle for the 2008-09 academic year is now open. Online applications are available at http://www.csuci.edu/financialaid/scholarships.htm. Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible, and before the Feb. 15, 2008 deadline.

To be eligible for a CSUCI scholarship award, a student must: be a California resident; be a full-time (minimum of 12 units) student working on a first Bachelor's degree in an undergraduate or credential program at CSUCI for both the fall 2008 and spring 2009 semesters and have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

Scholarship awards range between $1,000 and $2,500 and are selected from the applications gathered during this cycle. Not all scholarships are based on financial need.

Although not required, completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) allows students to maximize financial aid awards. The 2008-2009 FAFSA is available online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov beginning on Jan. 1, 2008.

The CSUCI President's Scholars Program is also open to students (CA residents only) with a minimum GPA of 3.75 and a minimum SAT-1 score of 1200 or 26 on the ACT exam. Applications for the President's Scholars Program must be submitted by March 2, 2008. Presidential Scholars receive full resident fees, $600 per semester credit at the University bookstore and use of a laptop computer. This scholarship is renewable for up to four years.

For more information about the scholarship process contact Maria Elena Zendejas, work study and scholarship coordinator at CSUCI, at 805-437-8405 or financial.aid@csuci.edu. Information also is available online at http://www.csuci.edu/financialaid/scholarships.htm.

CSU Channel Islands is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
