Simi Valley YMCA Selling Christmas Trees
Contributed by: Diane Rumbaugh on 11/27/2007

The Simi Valley Family YMCA is selling Christmas trees from December 1 through December 24 at the Y (3200 Cochran St., Corner of Galena and Cochran). Hours are 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

Fresh trees, delivered continually to the lot, will include Douglas, Noble and Nordman fir trees. Fireproofing is available. The Y offers a tree delivery and pick up service for businesses.

The YMCA first began selling Christmas trees in 1965. "We stopped awhile, but started again when the Simi Valley Family YMCA facility on Cochran Street opened in 2000," says Jack Vopal, a long-time YMCA volunteer. "We get a lot of repeat business. We have the freshest trees in town. Plus, people know that if you buy a tree from the Y, the proceeds go directly to programs that benefit the community."

Members of the Y's Mens service club and teenagers who participate in YMCA youth programs volunteer at the tree lot. Community volunteers are also welcome. Proceeds will support all Simi Valley Family YMCA's adult, family, youth and child programs.
