Hollow Hills Fundamental School kicked off their Open House with a tribute to the arts by transforming their Multi Purpose room into an art gallery. This annual event spotlights inspirational artwork done by the students. As Pablo Picasso once said, "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up."
The program titled Making Friends with Great Works of Art (GWOA) tries to solve the problem that Picasso pondered long ago. Designed as an art enrichment program for grades K-6th, the students are taught a series of ten lessons and work with various media to create their individual masterpieces. While the children are learning about famous artists, the ultimate result is one that energizes and inspires each of them. They learn more about themselves and ways of expressing their interests, talents, hopes, and even their fears as they learn about the Art Masters.
The Great Works of Art program would not be possible without the many loving and talented adult volunteer docents. The GWOA docents are the heart of the program; a program that would not exist without their enthusiasm and love. Many of the docents are parents of our students; however, the only prerequisite is a willingness to share. Our docents are a unique group of individuals who give tirelessly throughout the year and their efforts were clearly evident at the Art Show on Thursday night.
A warm thank you goes out to all of the volunteers, teachers, and staff at Hollow Hills that encourage and support the various programs that are sponsored by our PTA. American Wholesale Nursery provided plants to help in transforming the MPR into a showplace and for that we are thankful.
Inspiring children to imagine and create is a gift that we all can give, and in return everyone benefits.
