Career Night:The Golden Moment
Contributed by: Stepehn Galvin on 10/14/2007

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be up on stage with a golden Academy Award in your hands, thanking everyone that comes to mind? Have you actually practiced in front of the mirror with hopes of one day being on the stage?

That very moment happened to the brother of our Vice Principal! Danny Markowitz received an Academy Award for his hit song from the movie "Dirty Dancing." How cool is that!

Mason Cooper and Mary Woolerer were some of the 43 guest presenters at Hillside Middle School's Career Night. The event took up the whole gym and spilled over into the cafeteria and treats and snacks were on sale too. Teachers, administrators, counselors were represented, of course. But so were Bomb Squad Specialists, a Broadway Actor, Air Force personnel and even a Hair Stylist.

The Bomb Specialist showed off a real robot for disabling bombs. Between the start at 6:30 pm and the 8:00 o'clock evening's end there was time to see more careers. There were science researchers, engineers, lawyers and insurance agents. A pilot and a dental hygienist talked about their work, and so did a person who makes wigs. One engineer was the guy who drives the train.

Mrs. Thomas organized Career Night and Mrs. Wolf, the Hillside Principal came too. It was fun, it was awesome to meet an Academy Award winner. It was cool to see all the careers and think about the one that will be right for me.
