Imbued with the spirit of the holiday season, Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley members are digging into their pockets to help the needy in the community.

At a recent meeting, the club's Board of Directors approved a motion to match individual donations by members in order to make a substantial gift to the Salvation Army through the Star's Bellringer program. a total of $532 was sent with this message:

"In honor of our American military personnel who must be away from home during this holiday season, may God bless you and keep you from harm, and return you soon to your loved ones at home."

Although it is the club's policy to channel funds only through established charitable agencies, the members at a recent meeting again personally dug deep and gathered $350 to help two local families in need.

Kiwanis of Simi Valley will be visible at several venues during the month of December. Club members along with Key Club and Builders Club youths will sing Christmas carols at Sunrise Assisted Living, Simi Hills Gracious Living Facility, and Epiphany Home along with gifts delivered by Santa. The Kiwanis-sponsored Aktion Club will be caroling at Simi Town Center, assisted by Kiwanis members.
