Flag Football Sign-Ups at Simi Valley YMCA

Sign-ups are underway for the Simi Valley Family YMCA's co-ed flag football league. The 8-week season runs from January 10 through March 2, 2008.

Teams are formed based on age. The Y-Rookies league will contain two age divisions: ages 4 and 5, and 6 and 7. The Y-Winners league will have three divisions: ages 8 through 10, 11 through 13 and 14 through 16. No tryouts are necessary and everyone participates.

"The league is both instructional and competitive," says Dave DeMaio, youth sports and parent/child programs director at the Simi Y. "Kids learn the fundamentals of football, physical conditioning and teamwork. The teams compete against each other."

Practices and games will be at Lemon Park (3700 Avenida Simi). Practices will be held once a week with games scheduled for Sundays between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Participants receive a uniform and trophy will be at the end of the season. The cost is $65.00 for faculty members and $130 for participant non members. A $20 late registration fee will be charged after January 2.

"We are also looking for volunteer coaches," says DeMaio.
