Powers' Power - Concert

This is a little late but it's very worth noting if you are interested in vital and unusual contemporary music.

Tonight, Wed., Oct. 10, 2007 at 8.00 PM, Dr. Ollie Powers will present a concert at the Ventura College Theater. I've heard his work before at VC and it's a unique, fascinating experience.

Dr. Powers is a versatile all-round musician who composes in both concert (classical/serious/whatever...) and popular forms. He has released several CDs which showcase his popular songs and considerable guitar chops.

Tonight's concert will, however,demonstrate his interest in contemporary electronic/computer music.

Among other things, he will be performing with a theremin, a pioneering electronic instrument which was featured in such film scores as SPELLBOUND and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL.

The theremin is played by the movement of the hand over the instrument which itself looks like something out of a science fiction movie.

This is a rare chance to locally experience the unusual in music and a class event which would merit attention in Los Angeles where it certainly could (and should) be heard as well.

works using laptop computer, virtual synthesizers, and the classic
electronic instrument known as the theremin, in addition to recorded
works.

Dr. Powers' music explores the aesthetic dimension of music
that appears to originate from distant worlds, and this concert will
attempt to take the listener to new realms of sensation.

Tickets at the door only, 1/2 hour before showtime.
