A Desperate Housewife who used to have a Life

Once upon a time, I was a young, cute, blonde professional working at Disney in Burbank. I married a really handsome, smart, sweet guy and had a wonderful little baby girl and went back to work. Then my husband decided not to quit his teaching job, and my family pressured me to stay home with my baby. So... I quit my job, moved to a small town (Ventura) and had another kid. Now, somehow the person I was raised to be (high-achieving, intellectual, career-oriented) has been replaced by someone who obsesses about preschools and clean underware (other than my own). This is my life.

The Glory of Dodgeball

I am very proud to say that the sport of Dodgeball is alive and well at my daughter's school. I know that some elementary schools have outlawed this game due to the occational "beaning" of the ball into some poor kids' stomachs or backs. For all of us who grew up with this street game, the occational pain is worth the attempt to be the last one out! I, like my daughter, still love this game.

My daughter is now 7 and came home from school one day LOVING dodgeball. I don't know why since she is about as fast and as agile as her mother (ick). But for some reason we both live for the hope of being one of the last ones out.

Today when I dropped her off at school slightly early, she exclaimed, "Mom! I'm even in time for the dodgeball game!" I left her with an equally excited, "Run fast, honey" as she barely had time to close the car door.
