Being involved with people is one of Adam Haverstock's callings. As a graduate student Haverstock decided to run for student body president at California State University Northridge during the spring 2007 elections.
As an undergraduate he was always an active member of his fraternity but since then has decided to take on a more serious role in his life.
His campaign manger Igor Kegan was the one who helped Adam realize his "vision" for running for president of his campaign.
"Why do you want to be president?" Kegan asked Adam.
"I have leadership skills and direction to make things better," Adam said.
Adam chose Kegan as his campaign manger because he understood what the student advocate was all about which is exactly what Adam's needed for his campaign. Haverstock's slogan for the campaign was "Effective Government Fair Funding and Student Issues"
With the experience he gained for being part of Associated Students since spring 2005, Adam knew exactly the changes that need to be made.
Adam first started with the position as director of Greek relations then moved up the ladder to Finance director where he dispersed money among the clubs and organizations on campus.
"There was a lack of leadership and motivation", Haverstock said and he felt that he could be that person to take that challenge and make a difference in associated students.
"Running for presidency took a lot of time and effort" Haverstock said. But everything got done and he had a large group of supporters to help him through this time during the elections.
Adam would get up early everyday and pass out flyers so he could get his name out there, do the student body to vote. He would be outside from early morning to late at night. He even got sunburned from being outside for a long period of time.
"I respected and valued the respect from everyone who helped me in someway or another." Haverstock said. There were so many people supporting Adams presidency and knew it mattered to him so it mater to everyone who is close to him.
On April 25, 2007, was the day which changed Adams life. Since the polls were electronically they knew right away who the winner was for the 2007 spring elections. It took Adam from walking from the office to his truck in the G4 parking lot; within the first 10 minutes after the polls were close he received a phone call saying that he won the election.
After having won the election Adam celebrated with a few friends and got right down to taking care of business, running the school.
Now being the president of the student body, the president relies on his vice president to stand by his side and assist him in making decisions.
Adams vice president, Josh Hansen who works very closely with Adam says "
working with Adam is a lot like how I was working with him on finance we basically have the same respective roles and it's real easy." They understand and each other and can bounce ideas back and forth from each other.
Since both Haverstock and Hansen have worked so closely together before, they know and understand how to listen to each other.
"Another thing is that Adam is always really preparedand that also makes things real easy" said Hansen on working with Adam Haverstock.
Haverstock said that he enjoys being the president of the school and that people treat you differently especially among administrators.
As for hobbies and free time, Adam says he doesn't really have time because as president he is representing Cal State University Northridge and does a lot of traveling to meet other presidents from other schools.
But when Adam does have some free time he enjoys playing poker with friends and just relaxing at home maybe watching a movie or two.
As for his future plans Adam plans to finish the term off strong and hopefully run again and keep associated student stronger than it already is.
