LUCY "THE ROSE AND THE HOLY SPIRIT"
Contributed by: John Thomas I on 8/20/2007

In loving memory of LUCY MARY THOMAS May 13,1925 - August 25, 2006.

"THE ROSE AND THE HOLY SPIRIT."
(From one of Her many Journals.)
One day while walking home from morning Mass in November 16, 1976 I started to tell John just how I felt inside. I told him that I felt like a flower- I chose a Rose- that had never quite bloomed. I felt like a rose bud with all the petals tight and not opening up to the sunshine. He did not say too much.
Before we had left for church he had been cleaning up around the yard while I was getting ready and had pulled up some tomato plants ,near my rose bush that he had given me for Mothers day that May. As he was pulling up the old dead tomato plant he knocked off one of my rose buds. I never picked the roses as they didn`t seem to last as long in the house. He had put the rose in a white hobnail vase and placed it on the table at my place.
So that when we came home from church, after telling him about the rose bud feeling, there was the rose bud he had put there about ¾ of an hour earlier just opening up part way.
When I saw that rose bud it was like being zapped . I felt God used that flower to tell me I could open up and be the kind of person He intended me to be, Open and loving and not shy and afraid to speak out. I hugged John with a joy that was to bubble up and grow like I had never before experienced. The Holy Spirit was truly at work in my life and I thank Him for it.
Over a year later I get a wonderful warm feeling just to think about it. It made such a change in my life. Friends were calling John to ask if I was alright. And I know our children were puzzled. But it has been like a slave being set free. There was such joy in the new freedom. This was the beginning of my spiritual growth.
John was delighted to see me feel so open and no longer burdened with extreme shyness. I had always been a very quite person, holding everything in for years. The older children were very anxious and concerned and talked to John about this new person. Our friends came to our Shoe Store to ask John if I was alright , as I was so different, so bubbly. Not like the Lucy they used to know. John assured them all I was fine as he had talked to the Doctor and he had told John there was no need for any concern. It had been a Spiritual Experience that had brought on the change.
The change came at the most opportune time. My sister Peggy and I had not been to close. She and her family were coming for Thanksgiving. Her visit was a joyful time for me. We were reunited, so to speak, I realized how much she meant to me and it was a happy time for me. The change had a lot of good effects.
