From Teacher to Toastmaster

"Have a goal and be committed." These are words from Toastmaster Area B1 Governor Fern Vacca. Fern Vacca is an accomplished Toastmaster. Her accolades include Competent Communicator Bronze, Silver and Gold. She has been the past Ocean View Toastmasters President and is the current Area B1 Governor. Her duties as Governor include working with the Division Governor and 5 Toastmaster clubs in this area. She visits other clubs and helps to coordinate training programs. She chairs area contests like the Humorous and Evaluator Contest for Toastmasters coming up on September 15 at 7:00 pm at the Ventura Townehouse, Vista Room on the 7 th floor, 4900 Telegraph Road, Ventura.

One of Ferns goals as Area Governor is to work with local Toastmasters clubs to increase membership. Toastmasters is a perfect forum to meet many wonderful people in the local area. There are people from all walks of life involved with Toastmasters and make it a special place to develop personal skills. Fern retired as a Speech and Language Specialist from the Ventura Unified School District five years ago. As a 4-H Leader Fern works with many 4-H members on leadership and public speaking skills. Toastmasters gives her continued opportunities to do what she loves and allows her to help others as she does in 4-H. When Fern speaks at a Toastmasters meeting you can see how she loves public speaking. She lights up and is an inspiration to others.
